Our next instalment of Frequently Asked Questions is written by our very own CTO & COO, Dirk Meeuws.

We asked Dirk if he could explain to what a (cloud) data warehouse is and how it is relevant for recruitment teams. Read on for his response…

A data warehouse is a platform/technology that is used to gather all your relevant business data and derive relevant insights from. Types of data which should be present are for example marketing campaigns, website traffic, recruiter activity, placements/hires, BackOffice, etc.

Having all these datasets in one place together with some business logic enables you to really understand what is going on; transcending data sets. Just as in a logistic warehouse, the data is smartly catalogued and ordered such that it is easier to retrieve the insights you need.

You might also hear the term ‘data lake’ pop-up. The difference between the two is as follows: a data lake is a vast pool of raw data, the purpose for which is not yet defined. A data warehouse is a repository for structured, filtered data that already has been processed for a specific purpose.

Below is a visual from our partner, snowflake which is a cloud data platform. Here they show how from a single platform they enable your most critical data workloads:

So why is it relevant for recruitment teams? Storing data from your different systems and having the data structured, helps you make data-driven decisions. Those data-driven decisions help you make decisions and keep track of their result, to improve the performance of your recruitment team.
